Golden Certificate Award Day

Congratulations Ainslee Steedman and Kaitlin Love for achieving Gold Certification in the Northland School Librarian Training. This is the very first time this Event has been celebrated in the Country. Seven schools were represented, with 29 librarians getting their Gold Certificate. They celebrated at the Whangarei Library.
The afternoon started with a lunch provided by the Whangarei Library.
Then went on with a Tour through the back of the library.
Groups of librarians got together and went on a scavenger hunt.
To finish the afternoon there were speeches and the Mayor Sheryl Mai awarded the certificates.

Thanks for the wonderful job done this year by Ainslee and Kaitlin.

Caught Being a Good Grandparent!

Congratulations to Thelma Roest for being nominated and selected for our 'Caught Being a Good Grandparent' award.  This school would not be the great school it is without the support of our families and community.
Thank you Thelma for always going 'above and beyond' to support your grandchildren.

Celebrating Hairy Maclary's Birthday - 30 Years!!!

We had a fabulous Hairy Maclary party.  We had some fun puzzle and colouring activities, a 'create a new character competition' and a Hairy Maclary quiz designed by our fabulous librarians, Kaitlin and Jennie.  Mrs Shroff and Ms Higgins were extremely busy doing face painting while other staff were giving out dog and bone shaped biscuits for kids to ice!  It was an excellent day.

Duffy Books In Homes

When a child at Morningside School has a sibling at home having a birthday and they are turning 1,2,3,4 or 5 years old, they are able to choose a book to take home as a birthday present.
Xavier has picked out a book for his lovely little sister Georgia who is turning four on Friday 2nd August.   Happy Birthday  Georgia!!

I have just finished reading this book to my eight year old boy 'Caleb'.  We both found it a bit slow at the start, but by the end of the second chapter we were thoroughly hooked!  I found myself wanting to sneak and read it when he was asleep but managed to stop myself!

It is about a boy named 'Hal' who desperately wants a dog.  He is a kind, thoughtful boy who doesn't care about things like toys and money.  Hal's parents however are completely obsessed with money and possessions.  They spend more time buying things for Hal than spending time with him.

Hal ends up getting his dog 'Fleck' for his birthday but his parents played an awful trick on him,  they only hired Fleck for one weekend!

This book is about Hal and Fleck's adventures and what they had to go through to be together.  It was exciting and heart warming, but I don't want to give too much of the story away, You must read this book!!!

Library Week

We have just had our annual book week.  We have had guest readers in the library each day, book related colouring activities, a book quiz competition and a fantastic Character Day where the children and staff dressed up as their favourite book characters.  We also had staff reading their favourite picture books to different classes after lunch each day.
Check out some photos of the fun events!

Caught Being a Good Mum!

There were lots of creative and inspiring pieces of writing written about our mums for our 'Caught Being a Good Mum' award.
Congratulations to Kawiti who was chosen as the winner for the competition.  Kawiti worked extremely hard on his writing and we know that his mum 'Leewyn' is a fantastic mum that always does her best for her boys.  A big congratulations to you too Leewyn!

The following are a selection of some of  the great pieces of writing written by Morningside students:

I love my mum because she hugs me.
Mum takes me horse riding.

My Mum

My mum has brown eyes like me and she wears pink lipstick.  She also wears black tights with pretty jandals.  She looks so pretty in them.  She has pretty earrings.  She always does hard work on her studies because she has to work so much.  it's so interesting.  Mum makes the best spaghetti bolognaise and butter chicken.  I can eat a whole plate of it.  It's yummy.  I could eat it all the time.

My Mum

Deadly, got the bite of a shark and the speed of a torpedo

Friendly, takes me to the beach and buys me speedos

Funny, she's got a good sense of humour, and she knows a lot of 'Yo Mama' jokes

Sports fan, she can watch any sport for an hour and a half

A decade ago, she gave birth to me at 11.30.

WHY MY MUM IS AWESOME

Always when she is asked to look after my cousin she says yes.

Works at two jobs on the weekend and in the week.

Every time I go home I’m pleased she bought this house.

Sometimes she takes me out to McDonalds.

On my own she lets me walk the dog.

Marvellous cook every night.

Every time she picks me up she lets me go to the park.
